‘We cannot understand why the school has made the decision to have a two week holiday in the summer term – working parents have not been considered in this decision’

The decision to take two weeks in the summer term was made in order to offer families a window in which a family holiday could be taken. This was made following a change in government legislation stating that Headteachers should only authorise holiday in term time in exceptional circumstances. If a two week window had not been created then it was felt that it would have been detrimental to family life and also to the school’s overall attendance figures. Interestingly, the school’s overall attendance figure rose to over 97% last year – a figure which is significantly above the national average.

The allocation of INSET days are reviewed each year and next year, due to the term dates being less even, we have chosen to use INSET days at different times of the year. However we have still left an 11 day window in the summer half term to allow families to take a holiday without it adversely affecting their child’s attendance.

A Maths workshop is being held on the following dates:

Monday 2nd February 6 – 7 p.m. KS1

Monday 9th March 6 – 7 p.m. KS2

We recommend that you come along to the workshop to learn how we teach your child to write and decipher calculations and also to answer any questions you may have.   Please complete the reply slip below indicating which workshop you are able to attend Friday 23rd January 2015.

Please can we ask all parents / carers to ensure their child waits outside the classroom or in the playground area before the school day commences. Although the Den is open before school starts it is not an area to play!

Please can the person who bid for the ‘2 for 1’ Blackpool Pleasure Beach tickets contact Mrs Vost in the school office. Thanks!

A leaflet from The Student Support Centre was sent out on Monday and a reminder has been sent out today. Please can we ask you to complete and return the reply slip to the class teacher, ideally by Thursday morning of this week otherwise as soon as possible. Please return the reply slip whether or not you are interested, so that the school is aware that you have seen the leaflet.
