PARENT ATTITUDE QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSE
As previously mentioned in a recent newsletter, the Parent Attitude Questionnaires have been sent to LCC who will analyse all the responses. However, I will be taking the opportunity each week to respond to some of the written comments that we received, detailing what has been, is being or will be done to address your views.
‘Every year cooking club is oversubscribed, do some form of cooking within the curriculum.’
‘Learn basic cooking skills.’
‘Do more to develop economic awareness of pupils so that they understand the value of money.’
‘Teach children more about money, e.g. saving/avoiding debt.’
Due to the high levels of supervision required at cooking club numbers are limited (sharp knives, cookers etc. are used). However, at Primrose Hill we are very aware that pupils need vital cooking skills so we have incorporated these essential skills into our new curriculum. As part of our new curriculum we have allocated an aspect of cooking/food preparation into every year group and linked this to cross-curricular themes where possible. For example, we have biscuit/bread making, Egyptian feasts, fruit kebabs and Roman food units.
In our PSHE curriculum we also cover units such as Making a Positive Contribution, Community Action and Financial Capability in order to teach pupils about the value of money. These units often involve pupils generating their own income for projects or being offered a budget to prepare for an event. Additionally, the school council generate their own money through whole school fundraising initiatives and then report back to pupils regarding where the money is being spent.
We will continue to try and find as many ways as possible to incorporate these key life skills within our curriculum.
