PARENT ATTITUDE QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSE.

Comment 11

Pupils are given too much homework.

The school seems focused on making young children take too much responsibility for their age groups.

More focus on internet based homework for children.

Response

As a school we believe homework plays an essential part in enabling every child to achieve their full potential. Not only does it extend their learning it also allows pupils to gain important organisational skills, which help them prepare for future life. Class teachers give realistic timescales for completion of tasks and, providing that the workload is managed and not left to be completed all at once, then it should allow ample time for pupils to enjoy vital social activities. If you feel that there is a particular issue with the length of time that homework is taking then your child’s class teacher can always be contacted to discuss individual issues.

With regard to internet based homework we have just bought into a new online resource which will be rolled out throughout school next year. The online resource will mean that pupils can access their school work via the internet at home and will allow for a more integrated approach to homework. We have taken out a three year subscription to the online resource and we are very excited about integrating it into our curriculum at Primrose Hill.

You may have noticed from the diary dates that we are due to be visited by a top professional athlete on Monday 2nd March. The athlete, whose name I will reveal to pupils in a special assembly next week, will visit Primrose Hill and undertake a sports session with each class before delivering an assembly to the school about their achievements and experiences at the major sporting events.

Next week pupils will bring home a sponsor form for the event. Money raised will be used to buy new sports equipment as well as supporting the British Athletics Association in providing opportunities for the future sports men and women, which hopefully will include aspiring pupils from Primrose Hill. We are very excited about the visit and we hope that you will be able to support the event by gaining sponsorship prior to it. Thank you!
