Year four have had the most amazing of days, everyone dressed up as an Anglo Saxon and we headed off to Martin Mere where we spent the day at a Saxon village. Mere Tun’s villagers welcomed us and we learnt lots about the ways in which they spent their time. The children loved foraging in the woods, weaving with willow, thatching and learning how to defend the village with shields and swords.
After cleaning our hands with Dragon Snot, we sat around the fire and ate lunch. The children impressed the Saxons with their sensible questions and were thoroughly engaged in all activities. I know they all appreciated developing their historical knowledge in such an engaging way. Many thanks to parents and carers for their help in creating such amazing costumes. Thanks also, to the volunteers who came with us. A great day indeed!
