What a tricky afternoon we had when Deedee set us a challenge ! We had to learn to tie our shoelaces so we didn’t trip over them.

It was hard work !

We all made a crown today ready for our grandparents afternoon.

Look at our work !

Elm class had an amazing day when they got the chance to visit the Hindu Temple in Preston.

We all went on a coach and we loved looking out of the window and playing eye spy.

Today, Maple class have been researching all about Hinduism for our topic on Non-Chronological Reports.

The children were given information on their tables which they had to read, and four sub-headings that the information belonged under. They then chose a fact, wrote it on a sticky label and had to decide which sub- heading it would belong with.

This helped us to learn more information about Hinduism, but also about categorising information correctly.

Today was our trip to the Hindu temple. The class was very excited as we have started learning about Hinduism and they couldn’t wait to see inside!

When we got there, we took our shoes off and our group leader began to show us around.

We learnt all about worshipping in the temple and all about the Gods. We know that when people enter the temple, they ring the bell to let God know they have entered and are ready to pray.

Over the past few weeks, the children in Maple class have been learning all about Kenya through our English and Geography work.

Today, I asked the children to work with a partner to create a poster comparing life in a Maasai village to life in Euxton.

The children chose four areas to compare, then they were asked to show the similarities and differences.

Finally, the children presented their work to the class.

We have started our project all about the advertising a safari holiday and we have used a variety of website and books to find out information.

We really enjoyed our Pyjama day for Alder Hey !

It was great fun spending the day in pyjamas and slippers, although we weren’t allowed to snuggle up and fall asleep as there was still school work to be done !

We had lots of fun helping to make this year’s Christmas cards to help raise money for the PTFA.

We all had a wonderful time today when we celebrated Harvest.

We were happy to be joined by our mums dads and carers who came to watch our first assembly in Year 2.

We had some children performing a group poem.

Wow! Maple class had fun during their Diwali day.

We had a special visitor who came to school to teach us all about Diwali and to help us learn about respect.

We discussed how each of us is different and similar which led to a conversation about how we treat people who may look differently or believe in different religions.

Then it was time to put on our waistcoats and skirts that had come all the way from India!

We had so much fun and learnt a lot about respecting each other.

Maple class were very lucky to have a visit from the Space Dome to start our topic.

The children were very excited!

When we were inside, our visitor began to show us the stars and we followed the constellation, ‘Big Bear,’ around the dome.

We then learnt all about Neil Armstrong and how he was the first man on the moon.

Finally we ended with a space quiz. We knew all of the names of the planets!

Thank you for a lovely experience!

What a fantastic morning the children in Elm Class had when Mr Lunn brought his fantastic Space Dome into school.

It was very dark inside, so we didn’t get the opportunity to have many pictures taken, but we all loved the experience.

He showed us all the stars in the sky, and we discussed the planets and had a fantastic space quiz.

Mr Lunn talked to us about the space mission to the moon, and talked to us about Neil Armstrong’s life.

We loved it !

We have had an amazing time creating puppets in DT . It was wonderful to see the children learning to sew, and realising that they really could do it ! A huge achievement !

We first spent lots of time looking at puppets and how they worked, before designing our own puppet to be able to tell a story with. Some of us chose animals, and some people chose to make a Nursery Rhyme character.

After drawing around a template and cutting it out, we were on to our sewing !

We then learned to embellish our puppets to help to add detail to our puppets.

Look how proud we are of our work.

We had a fantastic day yesterday when we all took part in a Diwali day.

Prags came to talk to use about the Hindu faith and how she celebrates Diwali.

It was great because we all realised that we are all humans and have lots of similarities, more than we have differences.

She showed us some brilliant dancing and we all got to wear some fantastic outfits.

This morning was a great success and raised over £380 for MacMillan Cancer Support. Many thanks to everyone who donated cakes and to all who came and supported a worthy cause. An especial well done to year 6 who organised and ran the event.

We had great fun getting dirty when we harvested our potatoes this week.

We have been watering and caring for our potato plants since a April when we started chatting the potatoes but this week is was time to see if any have grown.

And then we started hunting for potatoes. We predicted we might find 5 or 6 potatoes. How wrong we were !

Paper card and glue was everywhere in Elm Class today as we became architects and building designers for the morning !

We first looked at Hundertwasser’s amazing buildings and we created our own building study

We then found out the architects design their building in card and paper first , so we set about learning lots of different folding and rolling techniques

For our DT lessons, the children in Maple class have created their own puppet, based on a character from a Traditional Tale, which links nicely with our earlier topic of Traditional Tales with a Twist.

First, the children had to draw around a template onto felt and cut their puppet out. They then used a needle and thread to sew it together. It was tricky at first but they persevered.

After the children had finished sewing their puppet, they cut out felt to create their design. There are a mixture of designs, such as Little Red Riding Hood, wolves, trolls, Goldilocks and the Gingerbread man.

Some children got together and created their own Traditional Tale with their characters and created play scripts.

Can you recognise any of the characters below?
