Year 3 archive pre 2020
This morning Key Stage 2 had a special assembly led by Andy who is a Christian from St Stephen’s Church in Preston. He came to tell us all about how and why Christians celebrate Christmas. He had lots of fun ways to teach us including games and a teachers quiz!
Year 3 were given a homework task to design and make a board game to help children learn their times tables. The games were amazing and the class really enjoyed playing them today.
Carrying on our dance theme of heroes, we needed a monster to fight – enter the Hydra! The multi-headed serpent monster which was faced by Hercules was great fun to imitate. We found lots of ways to move as the Hydra and finally combined to make all of the group in o one huge monster!
This morning Pendle Class were visited by Mrs Cobham, who is a senior children’s nurse, came to talk to the children all about being healthy. They helped sort food into healthy and unhealthy. They also learnt about why it was important to keep different parts of their bodies healthy. The children got to listen to their heartbeat using a stethoscope.
Year 3 Pendle Class enjoyed adapting their routines so they could perform them on different apparatus. The children thought carefully and creatively about how to use the equipment.
Pendle Class have had a lovely day learning all about Russia as part of our European Day of Languages. The children had a visit from Mrs Kovalenko who taught them some Russian words, the alphabet and also showed some Russian objects. She even made a traditional Russian vegetable salad. We read the story Peter and the Wolf and learnt lots of facts about the country,
This morning, year 3 and year 4 Ben Nevis enjoyed a fantastic science show all about forces.
Today Pendle Class got to try out painting like a Stone Age painter. They tried drawing upside down like they were in a cave, mixing paints to make different shades used in cave paintings, making their own paint from charcoal, painting with twigs and leaves and drawing on a rough surface.
Today Pendle Class learnt about the 3 different types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. They learnt how to identify each type and then had a go at sorting chocolate bars according to this.
Pendle Class were challenged to find the best rock for a statue. They decided the rock would need to be hard and impermeable and so designed experiments to test this. The winning rock was marble.
