Welcome to Ash Class. Year 1 is a very exciting and important year at Primrose Hill Primary School, marking a significant stepping stone from the Early Years Foundation Stage into Key Stage 1. It is a year in which children continue to build upon the strong foundations established in Reception while developing greater independence, confidence and resilience as learners.

In Ash Class, children are encouraged to explore, question and discover through a broad, engaging and creative curriculum. Year 1 provides a carefully planned transition from the play-based approach of EYFS to more structured learning, ensuring children feel secure, supported and ready to embrace new challenges. Through exciting lessons and practical experiences, children continue to develop their reading, writing and mathematics skills while fostering a love of learning.

Learning in Year 1 is enriched through a range of exciting experiences that bring the curriculum to life. One of the highlights of the year is the popular "Bring Yer Wellies" visit to Hoghton. This truly unique experience provides children with the opportunity to learn in a natural setting through hands-on outdoor activities and exploration. The visit encourages children to engage with nature, develop their curiosity about the world around them and build confidence through outdoor learning experiences.

Ash Class is taught by Miss Blackwell, who is dedicated to ensuring that every child feels happy, valued and successful. Through high expectations, encouragement and nurturing support, she helps children develop confidence in their abilities and a positive attitude towards learning.

Throughout the year, there is a strong focus on helping children become increasingly independent and responsible for their learning. Children are encouraged to develop positive learning behaviours, perseverance and resilience, all of which will support them throughout their time at Primrose Hill.

We strive to create a warm, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels safe, supported and inspired to achieve their very best. Alongside academic development, we place great importance on helping children develop kindness, friendship, respect and confidence.

We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to helping children flourish, and we value the support and communication of parents and carers throughout the year.
