Young Carers
Supporting children to thrive at school
At Euxton Primrose Hill, we recognise that some of our pupils have caring responsibilities at home.
A young carer is a child or young person who provides regular care or support to someone in their family who may have an illness, disability, mental health difficulty or other need for support.
We understand that caring for a family member can be an important part of family life, but it can also sometimes bring additional responsibilities and challenges.
We want every child at Primrose Hill to feel supported, included and able to make the most of school life.
💚 How we support our young carers
We are committed to supporting young carers so that they can enjoy school, participate fully and achieve their potential.
- listening to children and families
- understanding individual circumstances
- helping remove barriers to learning and participation
- supporting wellbeing and attendance where needed
- ensuring young carers can access clubs, trips and enrichment
- providing a trusted adult to talk to
- working with families and appropriate external services where additional support is needed.
🤝 How We Can Help
If you think your child may be a young carer, or you would like to talk to us about caring responsibilities at home, please speak to your child's class teacher or contact the school office.
You do not need to wait until there is a problem before talking to us. Early conversations can help us understand your child's circumstances and consider what support may be helpful.
We will work with you and your child to make sure they know that they are not alone and that support is available.
🌟 Young Carers at Primrose Hill
We want our young carers to experience the same opportunities as all of our pupils and to be able to take part fully in school life.
Our CARE values – Courage, Ambition, Respect and Excellence underpin our approach:
Courage – knowing that it is okay to ask for help.
Ambition – having the opportunity to pursue interests and achieve goals.
Respect – recognising and valuing the experiences of every child and family.
Excellence – helping every child to be the very best they can be.
