Welcome to Elm Class. Year 2 is an exciting and important year at Primrose Hill Primary School, as it marks the final year of Key Stage 1. Throughout the year, children continue to build upon the strong foundations developed in Reception and Year 1, while preparing for the transition into Key Stage 2. It is a year filled with opportunities for growth, independence and achievement as children become increasingly confident learners.

In Elm Class, children are encouraged to develop their curiosity, resilience and enthusiasm for learning through a broad and engaging curriculum. They continue to strengthen their reading, writing and mathematics skills, while exploring a wide range of exciting topics across the wider curriculum. Lessons are designed to inspire creativity, discussion and problem-solving, helping children to become confident and independent thinkers.

Year 2 provides many wonderful opportunities for children to enrich their learning beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, pupils take part in exciting educational visits and experiences that bring their learning to life. Highlights include a visit to the beautiful Gujarat Hindu Society Temple in Preston, where children learn about different faiths, cultures and traditions, and a trip to Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, where they explore local history and discover what life was like in the past. These experiences help children deepen their understanding of the world around them and create lasting memories with their classmates.

Elm Class is taught by Miss Pearson, who is dedicated to helping every child achieve their full potential and develop a love of learning. Through high expectations, encouragement and support, she helps children to build confidence in their abilities and develop the skills needed for the next stage of their education.

As children move through their final year of Key Stage 1, there is a strong focus on preparing them for a successful transition into Key Stage 2. Pupils are encouraged to become increasingly independent, take greater responsibility for their learning and develop positive learning habits that will support them in the years ahead.

We strive to create a nurturing, inclusive and positive classroom environment where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to succeed. Alongside academic achievement, we place great importance on developing kindness, confidence, resilience and positive friendships.

We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to helping children thrive, and we value the ongoing support and communication of parents and carers throughout the year.
