Outdoor Learning & Eco School
Learning, exploring and caring for our world
At Euxton Primrose Hill, we believe that some of the best learning happens outside the classroom.
Our extensive school grounds, woodland, pond area and outdoor spaces provide children with opportunities to explore, investigate, take manageable risks and learn through real experiences.
Outdoor learning is an important part of life at Primrose Hill and supports our children's confidence, independence, resilience, physical development and understanding of the natural world.
🌳 Forest School & Outdoor Learning
Our Forest School and outdoor learning opportunities encourage children to develop a strong relationship with the natural world.
Through practical, hands-on experiences, children have opportunities to:
- develop confidence and independence
- learn through exploration and experience
- develop resilience and problem-solving skills
- work collaboratively with others
- understand and care for the natural environment
- develop physical skills
- experience and manage appropriate levels of risk
- build a sense of curiosity and wonder about the world around them.
We want children to feel confident outdoors and develop the skills and attitudes they need to explore their environment safely and responsibly.
🌿 Learning Beyond the Classroom
Our outdoor spaces are used across the curriculum, not just during Forest School sessions.
Children have opportunities to use our grounds to investigate, observe, create, problem-solve and apply their learning in real-life contexts.
Outdoor learning helps children to make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the world around them.
🌍 Eco School
We are proud to be part of Eco-Schools, helping our pupils develop an understanding of environmental issues and the positive difference that they can make.
We want our children to understand that everyone has a role to play in caring for our planet.
Our Eco Club gives children from Years 1–6 the opportunity to become Eco Warriors, developing their knowledge, confidence and leadership skills while taking practical action within our school.
To give more children the opportunity to be involved, our Eco Warriors work in different groups across the year.
🌱 Our Eco Warriors
Our Eco Warriors help us to:
🌱 Care for and develop our school grounds
♻️ Reduce, reuse and recycle
🐦 Encourage and protect wildlife
🌍 Raise awareness of environmental issues
🌿 Plant and care for our gardens
💡 Think about how we use energy and resources
🗑️ Monitor and reduce waste
🎨 Create using recycled and reused materials
🗣️ Share ideas and encourage others to make positive choices
Children also have opportunities to work with visitors and take part in activities that help them understand the environment and the ways in which they can contribute to making a difference.
💚 Making a Difference
Our Eco School work links closely with our CARE values.
Courage – having the confidence to speak up and suggest ways we can make a difference.
Ambition – thinking creatively about how we can improve our environment.
Respect – caring for our school, our community and the natural world.
Excellence – taking pride in our environment and striving to make positive changes.
We want our children to understand that small actions can make a big difference and to leave Primrose Hill with a lifelong respect for the world around them.
Together we will make a difference.
